Please take note and be careful out there!
We hate to think about this, but National Geographic has a page of tips on how to avoid sharks and how to fight back.
If you have to fight a shark, hit it in sensitive areas like the gills and the eyes.

The Parker River Wildlife Refuge beaches are again open for fishing. Lots 1, 2, 6, and 7 opened on August 13, 2018. So let’s get out there and fish!
Next Tuesday is our August club meeting date and club fishing trip. Meet at Plum Island Airport. We will head over to the Wildlife Refuge where we have a group parking deal offered to us. Assemble at the airport around 7 pm. Plan on beachfront fishing, not jetty fishing. Bring your own gear, lures, and bait.
Please be at the Airport by 7 pm. We want to head over to the Wildlife Refuge together to get all cars in as a group for the parking discount (paid by the club.) Car-pooling is encouraged to limit the number of vehicles. Latecomers may need to pay for entry ($5).
Anyone who remains on the refuge past sunset needs a walk-on night permit. You may want to purchase that Tuesday evening.
If you are a complete novice (especially if you don’t have gear), it will be better to wait for the September Junior’s Fishing event at the wildlife refuge for your first outing with the club. The club can provide gear and more instruction at the Juniors event.
Aug. 21: Tuesday evening club meeting at 7 pm: Fishing the Plum Island Beachfront. Meet at Plum Island airport. Directions.
Our purpose is to be both an educational club and a social club. Club fishing trips are social events and the best way to put into practice everything we talk about at our formal club meetings. Come out and learn from fellow club members.
These trips are open to all club members (at no charge.) Bring your own gear including bait and lures. Remember that all Junior trips (announced on the club forum and via email) are also open to all club members. Juniors trips are not listed here.
These trips are designed for our adult members with some fishing experience and their own equipment. The trips may be appropriate for teens under close supervision by a parent. Novice fishermen (especially our Junior members) should start with attending Junior Fishing trips (announced via email, not this website.)

Congratulations to Mark Gilday, who won a $25 gift certificate to Surfland Bait & Tackle at our June club meeting.
Throughout our Year-Long Tournament Season, a drawing will be held each month. Every club member with one tournament entry (or more) in the past month has their name entered into the drawing. Future drawings will be held in July, August, and September. The lucky winner’s name is pulled out of the hat and gets to gear up at Surfland Bait & Tackle courtesy of Plum Island Surfcasters.
All senior club members can enter any size bluefish or keeper-size Striped Bass (28 inches or longer) in our tournament. Junior members can enter any size Bluefish or Striped Bass (schoolies count for our Juniors.) Even if a huge fish is leading in our tournament, it is worth entering your fish to qualify you for the monthly drawing.
Surlfand Bait & Tackle is a great place to weigh your fish for the “Kept Fish” category. They even have the tournament entry forms for you available in the shop. Remember that you cannot use your own scale to weigh a “Kept Fish.” You must weigh it on a government-certified scale (available at some tackle shops, food stores, etc.) This is necessary to ensure that the weight is accurate.
